little big trouble in big little city...

Dear Reno,
I have two words for you: Road. Trip. That's right! The Missus and I are headin' east this weekend for no reason other than our shared belief that every once in awhile, the fine state of Nevada needs a little Griffwood. Or maybe we need a little Nevada. Either way, we're coming for a visit.
Imagine our surprise (4 minutes ago) to discover that Ms. Wanda Sykes herself will be performing at the Silver Legacy! While this event appears to be sold out, we will definitely be crashing/asked to leave. Melissa is particularly sorry to be missing Mr. Julio Iglesias, but apparently, we'll be frequent visitors. We will also be available to receive keys to the city, take tours of hooker ranches and re-create that fabulous scene from Casino where Ginger throws the chips in the air.
I can't wait for the chance to wear my tiara from rehab under happier circumstances!

The last time I went to Reno, those ubiquitous floating cocktail waitresses fed me so many shots, I lost my bankroll and got so drunk I couldn't find the casino exit. Apparently, my friends escorted me out. I woke in the backseat of my friend's car on a side street in Winnemucca with a hangover from hell. Be careful of Nevada scorpions.

I have a yellow hat around here somewhere that hasn't seen daylight in awhile...

You should consider taking the train. It lets out right in front of the Silver Legacy. Train rides through the snow are fun.

One of my earliest memories was a trip we took to Tahoe and, due to a big snow storm, we got stranded for several days at the MGM Grand in Reno (now called the Grand Sierra). It was fabulous. They had a movie theater and bowling alley and it seemed like the entire downstairs of the hotel was full of those candy stores that keep everything in wooden barrels. They also had the MGM lion, Metro, chained up (and apparently heavily sedated) on a stage and the hotel guests were allowed to take a picture with him.

@Mel - make sure you don't wear that yellow hat indoors. Tisk tisk.
